Explanation of Daedalus editions

The Cardano ecosystem has grown to become a more complex environment. The Daedalus wallet has now been adapted and released in different editions.

Note that versions of Yoroi may be available for these networks too. Please see https://yoroi-wallet.com/#/ for more info.

Functional Differences

Here are some of the basic functional differences between each edition of Daedalus.

  • Daedalus wallet on the Cardano mainnet. This wallet is intended for using real ada.

  • Daedalus Flight is the pre-production version of Daedalus wallet.

  • Daedalus Testnet (previously Daedalus Shelley Testnet) on Cardano testnet. This wallet is intended for testing features and functionality.

  • Daedalus Rewards wallet on the Incentivized Testnet. This wallet was intended to allow users to earn real rewards in a testnet environment prior to Shelley. It supported staking and delegation of ada, along with the accumulation of real rewards. The ITN rewards period has ended and there will be a dedicated “redeem incentivized tesntet rewards” feature available in Daedalus mainnet soon

*It is important to note that you cannot send ada from Daedalus mainnet to Daedalus testnet, or vice versa.

Visual Differences

Visually the software Daedalus editions look very similar, but they have different colour schemes and some other design elements that will help users to be clear about which edition they are using. Also, the icons for the application are different (see table above). You can always check which edition you are using by checking the top of the application window:
